Location: Uruan Local Government Area occupies a large landmass. It situates between latitude 6° 40` and longitud~ 7° 20` E in the North and West. It is bounded in the East by Odukpani Local, Government Area in Cross River State, in the South by Okobo Local Government Area, in the West by Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Areas and in the North by Itu Local Government Area.

Dr Eventus Domlnlc Edem

He was born some 39 years ago, specifically on 15th October, 1969 in Ikot Akon village in Uruan Local Government Area.

He had his primary education at Group School, Ikot Akpa Ekang/lkot Aran, Uruan, which he completed in 1980. He also completed secondary school in 1986, obtaining the GCE, ordinary level.

Dr. Eventus later attended the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he graduated in 1992 with BA (Hons) in English. In 1996, he obtained a Diploma in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja. He also bagged an M.A in English in 2001, and a Ph.D. also in English in 2006.

For his national service, the NYSC scheme, he served at the Kaduna Polytechnic, as a public relations assistant in 1993. He worked as reporter/producer at NTA Channel 12, Uyo (1994-1995); personal assistant to the Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA, (1996-1999); and personal assistant on Information and Protocol to Hon. Adviser, Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs, office of the Governor, Uyo (1999-2002).

Between 2003 and 2004, Hon. Edem anchored the sports column as acting sports editor, Pioneer newspaper, and between 2005 and 2007, he was personal assistant, on Information and Public Affairs to Hon. Special Adviser, in the Governor`s office.

While with the media, he produced many programmes such as: "Let`s Stop and Think, My People" (AKBC Radio, 2006); "Politics Today" (NTA 12, Uyo); and "Portrait and Strides of Arc. Victor Attah (TV and Radio documentary, 2003). He also played active role in the gubernatorial campaigns of Chief Godswill Akpabio.

Many other positions Dr. Edem held both in the social and politicql circles include: general secretary, National Association of Uruan Students, Uniyo Chapter; publicity secretary of Sports Writers Association; member, Nigerian Union of Journalists; assistant secretary, Akwa Ibom People`s Forum, AKPF (20052006); and director of protocol (2006). He was also appointed secretary general, Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State chapter.

He has also received many awards, and has been honoured with many chieftaincy titles including Otuekong Uruan, Adaha Oku (Oku Clan, Uyo), Uyio Iwaad Usuk Uruan, as well as Obong Nkaiso Odoro Uruan.

His hobbies include soccer, travelling, and reading. He is happily married to his heartthrob, Editi Eventus Edem.
