""The focus of this government will be directed at ensuring the provision of infrastructure, (roads, power, water, healthcare, education) and in particular, the completion of key projects of the immediate past administration. These include the Ibom Power Plant, Science and Technology Park, Ibom Le' Meriden & Golf Resort, the International Airport, and the Akwa Ibom University of Technology, among others. Since then I have put in place a roadmap for actualising this vision in order to transform our infrastructural challenges from remaining as obstacles to becoming catalysts of poverty alleviation and sustainable development. This objective requires a positive and dynamic partnership between the public and the private sectors as has now become the norm across the globe."

The Interministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee commissioned its first set of projects in 2008, starting on 3rd June with just one year in office of the administration with 188 projects spelt promise keeping with 22 school building projects as well as 97 electrification, 28 mini water, 19 health facilities, and 22 civic buildings. However, more projects were delivered in Uyo which received 28 of the 188 projects consisting of 4 civic buildings, 2 water projects, 20 electrification projects and 2 school building projects. With 529 projects to deliver, three times more than the previous year’s delivery, the commissioning this time had to start on 27th January up to 23rd April, with 327 school projects, 101 electrification, 47 water, 35 health facilities, 17 civic buildings and 2 road component projects. Still, more of the projects were delivered in the state capital which received 34 projects. However, there was even spread of projects in 2009 with the exception of Obot Akara which received only 2 projects on account of completion challenges. The administration raised the game in 2010 with 648 projects ready for commissioning, delivering 294 school projects, 77 electrification, 122 water, 39 health facilities, 102 civic buildings and 14 road component projects. This so far brings the administration’s ready interministerial projects to a hefty 1,365, emphatically underscoring improved living conditions for local communities all over the state and a micro symmetry of the state government’s massive infrastructure deployment.

School Buildings  open details

School buildings benefited the most in 2009 interministerial projects. A total 327 school buildings were erected or rehabilitated making most of our schools even in the rural areas take on the appearance of model primary and secondary schools. This development is occasioned by the prevailing policy of the administration to bring education within the reach of all classes of children. The administration did a little less in 2010 with 294 buildings so as to place more resources in electricity, health, and water. However, school building projects constitute 45% the number in 2010 interministerial projects.

Electrification open details

This administration is vigorously pursuing a strategy of uninterrupted electricity in Akwa Ibom State. The target date is 2010 but to achieve this the rural communities need to be connected to the national grid. To this end 101 electrification projects were carried out in 2009 adding to 97 in 2008 to achieve 70% electrification of the state. With 77 electrication projects to position the state for uninterrupted electricity in 2010, the stage is set.

Mini Water open details

The administration is delivering 122 mini water projects in 2010. 47 mini water projects were deployed in 2009 in addition to 28 in 2008 to provide access to portable water in rural communities. This is to augment the state's major pipe borne potable water supply in urban areas which is facing gradual expansion to eventually cover the entire state.  Of the 122 water projects in 2010, 15 are in Essien Udim, 10 in Ikot Ekpene, and 8 in Onna.

Roads open details

39 health facility projects are being delivered in 2010. These comprise contruction or rehabilitation of health centres, construction of perimeter fences, contruction of doctors', nurses', and staff quarters, and construction or rehab of admin blocks. These projects have underscored the administration's bid to make healthcare accessible to all. In 2009, 35 health facilities were renovated or constructed around the state to strengthen primary health care delivery, in addition to such projects in 2008. These delivery gives life to government's policy of free healthcare for senior citizens, the pregnant, and children. In 2009 some 17 civic buildings, down from 22 in 2008, such as civic centres, skill acquisition centres, children homes, restaurants, and market stalls were constructed to give a new lease of life to rural dwellers. In 2010 the administration delivered 102 civic buildings, about three times the number delivered in 2008 and 2009 put together. A manifestation of strong state policy towards improving living conditions of rural communities. In 2008 a total of 168 rural feeder/farm roads have been graded and rehabilitated to ease transportation challenges of the inhabitants of the rural areas. The exercise has helped rural farmers to evacuate and market their products with ease. Also in 2009 government distributed graders to all local governments to help ease out bumps and pot holes. However, in 2010, 14 road component projects such as drainages were constructed. These paves the way for solid road construction works subsequently.
