Contract Termination Awaits Non-Performing Contractors
30 Jun 2011

Henceforth, all non-performing resource persons handling inter-ministerial and security estate jobs across the state, stand the risk of having such jobs terminated for lack of performance. This was the fall-out of the audience that members of the technical sub-committee of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee led by its secretary, Dr. Otuekong Ukut, had with the Secretary of the state government, Obong Umanah Okon Umanah, in his office.

The SSG while replying to the progress report earlier submitted to him by Dr. Ukut, had urged all resource persons to ensure that they abide by the letter of their engagement by ensuring the speedy completion of their jobs or have them terminated. Obong Umanah, who requested for a list of non-performing contractors, however commended the committee for its achievements as witnessed in the massive renovation of schools, health centers, skill acquisition centers and other life-touching projects executed by the committee. He charged the committee to be more proactive in its regular monitoring of the jobs given to resource persons as well as ensure that it continues its monthly report to the state government through the office of the Secretary to the State Government pending the reconstitution of the state executive council.

Earlier, the sub-committee had furnished the SSG with the progress report of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee as well as its various activities and stages of different jobs. It stated that since their inauguration, the committee has done so much in registering government’s presence in almost every village in the state. The report had it that most resource persons were given mobilizations and regretted their inability to meet with the dates for delivery of jobs. It however promised to make thorough investigation to bring erring contractors to order and also assuring the completion of every project before the end of 2011.

The committee thanked the State Governor, His Excellency Obong (Barr.) Godswill Akpabio, for the confidence he reposes on them and promised their support to him as he continues his uncommon transformation of Akwa Ibom State. Their statement also had it that the Governor means well for the state and prayed God to grant him a more successful second term.
