Gov. Akpabio Approves Appointment of Nine-Member Board and Substantive VC for AKS University

The Akwa Ibom state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has approved the appointment of a nine-member governing board for the state University. The governing board is headed by Dr Okon Eminue as Pro Chancellor/Chairman. Members are Chief A. S. Udofia, Monsignor Peter Inyangetor, Elder Udo Sampson Akpan, Mr. Moses Ekpo, and Professor. E. I. Etuk. Also in the list are: Mrs. Glory E. Effiong, and Prof. Emem Ufot Nwa. Governor Akpabio in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Umana Okon Umana, congratulated the chairman and members of the governing board of the institution.
He expressed optimism that they will use their wealth of experience to render faithful and dedicated service to the university to justify the confidence reposed in them. The governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has also approved the appointment of Prof. Sunday W. Petters, as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University. The appointment took effect from 1st January, 2010.
Prof. Sunday Petters has been the acting vice chancellor of the institution. Governor Akpabio in a statement issued by the SSG, Mr. Umana O. Umana, congratulated Prof. S. Petters on the appointment and advised him to use his wealth of experience to justify the confidence reposed in him. Meanwhile, the recent appointment of Professor Petters as a substantive vice-chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University by Governor Godswill Akpabio has been hailed by well meaning citizens, the latest is Ata Obio Akpa village council and chiefs of the land donor community of Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa campus.
In a message, the people expressed happiness that the excellent administrative styles of Professor Petters during his days as acting vice-chancellor had paid off. The community leaders particularly thanked the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for bringing a campus of the university to Obio Akpa and for choosing Professor Petters whom they described as an academic icon and a straight forward personality to man the affairs of the young university.
The message was signed by the village head of Ata Obio Akpa, Chief Samuel Okon Essien; chairman village council, Elder Okon Sampson Idiong, Chairman Land Donor Community, Obio Akpa and village head, Afaha Ikot Akpa Idem, Chief Elijah Sampson Udoh and the secretary, Land Donor Community, Mr. Aniefiok Idiong.
