No More Room for Recalcitrant Civil Servants in Akwa Ibom State ...Monitoring Team
04 Aug 2010
The State Civil Service Monitoring Committee Team as a creation of the office of the Head of Service, Elder Grace Anwana had made Akwa Ibom State Government proud since the present team headed by a technocrat and an enigma of administration, Dr. Akpanim Ntekim Ekpe came into existence. The re-branded monitoring team on daily and weekly basis had succeeded in bringing recalcitrant civil servants, both junior and senior staff, to be more responsive to their duties, as the team gives no ministry any notice of its outings.
There were more shocking discoveries by the monitoring team during its visits to four government offices on July 27th, 2010. At the office of the Auditor General for local governments at Okpon street, Uyo, the team saw a very dirty environment and the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Akpanim Ekpe, directed the Director of Administration to make sure that the place is always kept tidy and clean. At Uyo Capital City Development Authority, the Chairman requested for orderly stacking of plans, year by year and local government by local government.
A visit to the Ministry Of Agriculture And Natural Resources was shocking as a look at the Ministry’s attendance register showed that 37 out of the 98 senior staff were not present when the team arrived by 9am, a development that was so disturbing to the monitoring team as the Chairman of the team said their attitude did not show exemplary leadership for the junior staff to emulate. It was also discovered that 47 out of 64 junior staff of the same Agriculture Ministry were not also present hence the Chairman ordered that queries be given to them. A dirty environment was also noticed at the Ministry of Agriculture And Natural Resources. The Bureau of Political Affairs along Esuene Street was also visited by the team.
The success story and briefs of the members of Civil Service Monitoring Team that has performed so well to the satisfaction of all Akwa Ibom people including civil servants are as follows:
