Law Reform Commission Presents First Annual Report
23 Jun 2010

It was a major breakthrough as the Akwa Ibom State Law Reform Commission presented its 2009 annual report titled “RE AWAKEINING THE REFORMER” to the public in a colourful event recently.

Describing the event as simple but special, the Chairman of the Commission, Sir (Barr.) Cosmas Udoette (KSJ) said the publication of the report, which is one of the Commission's statutory duties, was the first since its inception about 20 years ago.

Barrister Udoette was thankful to God and appreciative of the administration of Chief (Dr.) Godswill O. Akpabio whose support has made the historic event possible.

The Commission boss explained that the Commission as a research agency of government needs a voice in print to show-case its activities to the public as well as a reference material to stake-holders in the administration of Customary Laws.

He therefore urged the public to purchase copies at the cost of N200 only in order to know the workings of the Commission and at the same time, generate funds for government.

In his remark, one of the four serving Commissioners at the Commission, Otuckong Bonny Nyong, expressed satisfaction at the publication and presentation of the Annual Report and attributed the success of the present management of the Commission which was sworn into office in October, 2008, to the cordial working relationship existing between them.

Expressing further his joy, Otuekong Nyong launched 20 copies of the Annual Report in aid of Law students of Akwa Ibom State Origin and a copy each for staff of the Commission.

Speaking on behalf of District Court President Engr. Gabriel A. Obononoidem who is the District Court President of Abak-Midim, praised the wisdom of the present administration in placing the right people at the helm of the affairs of the Commission which has made possible the success story so far recorded.

The Executive Secretary, Judicial Service Commission speaking through Mrs. Anietie Usah, described the publication / presentation as a giant stride which most Commissions are yet to attain.

Present at the event were invited guests, Heads of Boards and Commissions, Court Administrators and relevant stake-holders besides staff of the Commission.
