30,000 Seater Akwa Ibom Sports Stadium to be Built Soon

Indeed, delivering democracy dividends is the hallmark of the administration of Chief Godswill Akpabio, Governor of Akwa Ibom state. This, the governor demonstrated last week, when he reaffirmed the resolve of his government to build a befitting stadium with a sitting capacity of 30,000 aimed at meeting the sports needs of the people of state. The position of government was made known when Messrs Julius Berger, the construction firm to handle the said project presented the project blueprint to the governor in Government House, Uyo.
Chief Akpabio hinted that the stadium project was contemplated because of his administration’s determination to re-position the state to meet the expectations of the 21st century through investment in projects and programmes that would raise the status of the state. The governor added that the stadium project would be yet another giant achievement of his administration and pledged that within the limit of available funds, construction of the stadium would commence before long owning to its importance in the development of the state.
According to the state governor, “This is another project that will keep Akwa Ibom State on top of the world. It looks as if I should ask you to plant what I am seeing now, and I commission it for my people.” He therefore lauded the company for helping in the re-packaging of the state, saying with the nature of roads and other projects it has handled, the company has helped to re-write the Akwa Ibom story.
Speaking at the event, the state deputy governor, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, described the state governor as a man with great vision for the state and her people, adding that the planed stadium is another magnificent feat. The deputy governor said that Akwa Ibom people are ever proud to identify with the governor because of his development vision and commitment to transform the state in all ramifications, which according to him the governor has exhibited since assumption of office.
On his part, the technical divisional manager of Julius Berger, Mr. Marco Branu while presenting the stadium model to the state governor and members of the state executive council, said that the 30, 000 capacity stadium would be of world standard with modern facilities, including a sports village. He therefore pledged the readiness of his company to deliver the job on schedule and according to specification once contract for commencement of the job has been signed.
