10 Apr 2012
Governor Godswill Akpabio has described the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Akwa Ibom, Pastor Oyong Asukwo as a man who invested in people and lived a life that touched many.
Pastor Asukwo whose car mistakinly hit a pavement along Okobo-Nsit Atai Road on his way to Uyo died in the early hours of Saturday last week.
Akpabio who paid a condolence visit to the widow of the late commissioner, Mrs Ani Oyong Asukwo and family members Monday described the deceased as a brother whom he worked closely with him from his days as a Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources.
The Governor said the widow should not listen to rumours peddled by people on cause of her husband's death but to look up to God who gives life, urging her to be stronger for her children.
He noted that the lesson to be drawn from Pastor Asukwo' s death was that life is empirical, extending his condolences and that of the government and people in the state to the bereaved family.
The eldest sister of the departed, Mrs. Esther Etim Asukwo hinted that the deceased had developed many people, evolved a zoning system which helped to foster peace and unity in Oron Local Government Area.
Mrs. Asukwo, who said the deceased believed in serving people first before himself, appealed to the Governor not to forget the family.
